SUMMARY:Uusikuu – „Vintage Sound of Finland“ | Eisvogel / Nehren
DESCRIPTION:On a Nordic August evening, we gather with treats to celebrate summer in a joyful atmosphere. Vintage orchestra Uusikuu serve up a vibrant mix of musical delights under the Northern Lights with their sixth album, Piknik (out February 2025, Nordic Notes). It’s a feast of rousing rhythms, deep emotions, romance, and drama—an ode to the exuberance of life.\nFinland, crowned the world’s happiest country for the seventh time, embodies onni (happiness), subtle humor, and quirky anecdotes, but also solitude and silence. Since 2006, Uusikuu (New Moon) has been reviving Finnish tango with a fresh, dynamic twist. Far from the genre’s melancholic roots, their “Vintage Sounds of Finland” pay tribute to the country’s dance music from the 1930s to the 1960s, with occasional nods to the ‘70s and ‘80s. And as devoted Eurovision fans, they can’t resist weaving in playful references to the legendary contest!\nBlending world music with fiery tangos, dreamy waltzes, cheeky jenkkas, spirited humppas, and swing, Uusikuu has always made audiences dance. Critics agree: In 2016, their album Suomi-Neito was nominated for the quarterly prizes of the German music critics. In early 2020, their album Flamingo entered the top 20 of the Roots Music Report’s World Album Charts. In 2022, the band was nominated for the German world music prize „Eiserner Eversteiner“. In late 2022, Karuselli entered also the Top 30 of the World Music Charts Europe. In 2023 Uusikuu was awarded with „Best World Music Album“ for Karuselli at the Deutscher Rock & Pop Preis. Two weeks before its release Piknik had already entered the Top 50 of World Music Charts Europe.\nJoin Uusikuu’s musical picnic, where happiness is served in bite-sized melodies, and everyone is welcome to sing along!\n\n\n\n\nUusikuu are:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLaura Ryhänen, vocals\nMikko Kuisma, violin and vocals\nNorbert Bremes, accordion\nJames Geier, guitar\nFlorian Dohrmann, double bass\n\n\n\n\n\n
